FLORALIA
Sabrina Ratté
PYLON is pleased to announce the presentation of FLORALIA by multi-media artist SABRINA RATTÉ as the inauguration of the new modular gallery HYBRID BOX, opening March 18th, 2021.*
Sabrina Ratté works as a multi-media artist with a string focus on 3D animation. Her artistic practice combines analog technologies with photography and three dimensional computer animation, to investigate the influence of both digital and physical spaces on the human perception. Ratté creates digital objects and landscapes that convey ideas of posthuman environments in their own distinct vision, visualizing the entanglement of organic and synthetic material in our highly digitalized perception of the world.
The presentation of FLORALIA will be the first exhibition in the HYBRID BOX that will open in front of the main hall of HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts in Dresden. PYLON will present a variety of digital artworks thought the year.
With HYBRID a new international platform for the arts in the digital age and critical phases of global transformation processes will be established. As a start, the joint festival HYBRID – CUTTING EDGE CANADA in cooperation with MUTEK presents performances on virtual stages, an interactive virtual gallery and a listening room with a non-stop selection from the archives of the MUTEK network. The festival is still running from March 11th – March 14th.
After your free registration on virtual.mutek.org you will be granted access to the full virtual festival experience of HYBRID – CUTTING EDGE CANADA. On March 13, objekt klein a will host a virtual after-show-party.
The focus of HYBRID – CUTTING EDGE CANADA is on artists who live in Canada, have worked there or are active in the MUTEK network. Beyond the performative program, the festival further presents the NEW NATURE initiative in collaboration with the Goethe Institut Montreal: A project in which climate scientists, technology experts and artists respond to the need to rethink our relationship with nature.

Inspired by the writings of Donna J. Haraway, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Greg Egan, FLORALIA plunges us into a speculative future, where samples of then extinct plant species are preserved and displayed in a virtual archive room. Through editing and visual strategies, this archive is sporadically transformed under the effect of interference caused by the memory emanating from the listed plants, revealing traces of a past that continues to haunt the place.
FLORALIA is a simulation of ecosystems born from the fusion of technology and organic matter, where past and future coexist in a perpetual tension of the present.
