CORPO FECHADO

Mario Pfeifer

We are pleased to announce the screening of CORPO FECHADO (2016) by Mario Pfeifer on the special occasion of the closing of his exhibition RURAL TECHNOLOGY at PYLON-Lab on May 18th.

Pfeifer’s work is based on the research of social-political backgrounds in specific cultural situations from Mumbai to São Paulo. He explores representational structures and conventions in the medium of film, resulting in multi-layered video works that cumulate both filmic and political, cross-cultural and historical references.

The closing event will begin on at 3pm, including the full installation with Pfeifer’s works “Approximation” as well as “#blacktivist”. The screening of Corpo Fechado starts at 5:30 pm. The entry is free.

We would like to thank the Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen for kindly supporting the exhibition RURAL TECHNOLOGY.

Corpo Fechado (2016)

Mario Pfeifer’s video work Corpo Fechado has been produced in São Paulo, Brazil focussing on societal conditions in relation to spiritual and religious practices in the megapolis. The film is situated between documentary and fiction, between reality and belief, between social realism and philosophical prediction in the age of media and tradition.

Constructed in three episodes and three interludes, the video introduces the practices of three main characters – each a spiritual practitioner of their own kind. Each episode was produced in collaboration with the practitioner – both to represent core ideas of the practice and ideology but also as a critical reflection on the societal condition we live in through the lens of faith. Each Episode ends with the URL under which the practitioner can be reached, grounding a viewer that the seen and heard has a body to consult with, what is been shown on screen is mere a reality than fiction.

The episodes are interconnected through interludes that introduce production sites, from where machine made and hand-produced religious objects are being manufactured and distributed globally for believers of all major religions, on the junction of labour, market and faith.
